Licensure Examination for Teachers

The Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) is a standardized test and a requirement for all aspiring graduates who want to become professional teachers.

According to RA 7836 Article III (Qualification Requirements of Applicants), Section 13, all applicants cannot practice the teaching profession unless they have a valid certificate of registration and a valid professional license from the Philippine Regulation Commission.

Hence, you need to pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers to become a professional teacher.

The scope of this examination is divided into two separate exams: one for elementary teachers and one for secondary teachers.

For elementary teachers, the exam is composed of two main parts: General Education and Professional Education.

Meanwhile, secondary education teachers have three main parts: General Education, Professional Education, and Specialization/Major.

Here’s how the weights are distributed per exam level:

Licensure Examination for Teachers

Based on PRC, to pass the exam, takers must obtain an average of 75% and have no rating below 50% in any subject.

What does this mean?

For example, in elementary education, aspiring teachers must obtain an overall rating of 75% with no rating less than 50% on the exam.

Teacher A passed the exam because his overall rating was 75%, with no rating below 50% in any of the tests.

Teacher B, despite his rating, did not pass the exam because his rating in one of the tests, the General Education, is below 50%.

Note: The weighted average of LET in General Education is 40% and 60% in Professional Education for elementary education.

Meanwhile, in secondary education, aspiring teachers must also obtain a 75% overall rating with no rating less than 50% in any test.

Teacher C passed the test because all of his ratings in the three tests are above 50%, and his overall rating is 75%.

Unlike Teacher D, despite his rating of 75.8%, he did not pass the exam because one of his ratings, namely the Specialization, is below 50%.

Note: The weighted average of LET in General Education is 20%, 40% in Professional Education, and 40% in Specialization for secondary education.

Therefore, to pass the exam, takers need to meet the following:

1. You must obtain a general average of 75%

2. No rating is less than 50% in any of the tests.
